Inspired by Horace Pippin

Horace Pippin (February 22, 1888 - July 6, 1946) was a self-taught African American painter. The injustice of slavery and American segregation was prominently in many of his works. As a World War II veteran, Pippin overcame a severe injury to his painting arm to emerge as one of the nation's leading artists. Using his original technique, he first burned the outlines of figures into wooden boards, then filled them wit vibrant colors.
