Inspired by Duke Ellington
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (April
29, 1899 – May 24, 1974) was an American composer, pianist and bandleader of jazz
orchestras. His career spanned over 50 years.
Beginning with a 1927 Cotton Club engagement, Ellington made his
swinging orchestra a vital part of U.S. popular music. Radio broadcasts, annual concerts at Carnegie
Hall, and sold-out tours made him a one of a kind household name.
He wrote over 2,000 compositions.
